Do you wanna know a secret?

"WikiLeaks coined a new type of journalism: scientific journalism. We work with other media outlets to bring people the news, but also to prove it is true. Scientific journalism allows you to read a news story, then to click online to see the original document it is based on. That way you can judge for yourself: Is the story true? Did the journalist report it accurately?

Democratic societies need a strong media and WikiLeaks is part of that media. The media helps keep government honest. WikiLeaks has revealed some hard truths about the Iraq and Afghan wars, and broken stories about corporate corruption.

People have said I am anti-war: for the record, I am not. Sometimes nations need to go to war, and there are just wars. But there is nothing more wrong than a government lying to its people about those wars, then asking these same citizens to put their lives and their taxes on the line for those lies. If a war is justified, then tell the truth and the people will decide whether to support it." Read More

Murdoch apologises over UK phone hacking

"Rupert Murdoch, the global media baron, has apologised for phone hacking at his London newspapers in the wake of the scandal that has forced one newspaper to close and led to the resignations of two executives.

The apology, published in major British newspapers on Saturday, came hours after Rebekah Brooks resigned as chief executive of News International and Les Hinton quit as chief executive of Dow Jones.

Hinton held the same position as Brooks at the London-based company from 1995 to 200.

In full-page adverts, Murdoch pledged "concrete steps" to resolve the issue in a bid to regain the initiative after losing the two executives.

New International publishes the Times, the Sunday Times and the Sun, which is the best-selling daily in the UK. A fourth paper, the News of the World, was closed a week ago as the scandal sparked public outrage.

The phone hacking happened in 2002 when Brooks was the editor of the News of the World. She moved on in 2003 to edit The Sun.

Hinton, appointed chief executive of News Corp-owned Dow Jones in 2007, took responsibility for the scandal as he was head of News International when the phone hacking went on.

Murdoch heads News Corp, a parent company of News International, while his son James runs the company's operations in Europe.

The News of the World hacked thousands of phones, including that of a murdered 13-year-old girl, and the apology appears to be an admission of guilt." Read More

Obama tells Muslim world vaccines are not CIA front, then runs CIA vaccine front.

In his 2009 speech to the Muslim world, President Barack Obama announced a new effort to eradicate polio, which persists in three Muslim countries. One of the biggest hurdles had been persuading some local leaders that vaccination campaigns were independent health efforts, not nefarious programs being run by the CIA.

With the Obama administration's assurances, Muslim scholars issued a religious decree that parents should vaccinate their children. The administration and public health officials cheered as the number of new polio cases began to fall in some hard-to-reach areas.

Recently, however, as the U.S. closed in on Osama bin Laden's compound in Pakistan, the CIA used a vaccine program as cover, a way to try to collect DNA from bin Laden's family and confirm he was hiding inside a walled compound.

Public health officials swiftly criticized the move, saying the independence of health workers must be sacrosanct. World Health Organization spokeswoman Sona Bari said health officials were caught by surprise when the story was first reported by the Guardian newspaper in London. The Associated Press has confirmed details about the vaccination program from U.S. officials.

"It's just so unfortunate. It's the worst kind of labeling you could put on a public health campaign," Bari said Wednesday. "Any backlash against this will hurt the children of Pakistan."

Terror strikes Mumbai again with series of blasts

"Three bomb blasts rocked India's largest city, Mumbai, in congested areas during the evening rush hour Wednesday, killing at least 21 people and injuring more than 100 others.

Prithviraj Chavan, Maharashtra state's chief minister, said it was too early to talk about suspects but at least one of the apparently coordinated blasts was "quite powerful." He warned the death toll could rise.

Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram called the explosions a "coordinated attack by terrorists" and appealed for calm as Mumbai residents voiced anger at the government because their city has been a repeated target for terror." Read More

The Indignant

"Demonstrations, marches, rallies. For months now hundreds of thousands of Europeans have been expressing their anger at government imposed austerity measures.

Recently those voices have been especially loud in Greece, where the administration is trying to implement a savage programme of spending cuts to avoid the country defaulting on its loans.

But it is in Spain that the protest movement has gained most traction. In mid-May demonstrations that started in the capital Madrid soon led to mass rallies in other major cities, in some cases occupying public squares for almost a month.

The "indignants" as they call themselves, dismantled their last camp in Madrid on June 12, but their commitment shows no sign of waning and many more marches and rallies are planned for the weeks ahead.

So what is driving them? And what do they hope to achieve? A team from Televisio de Catalunya filmed through the first weeks of the May protests in Madrid and Barcelona, and found people angry at their country's economic and political elites."

Why China may worry about North Korea just as much as America does

"SUCH reports have been heard before and smack of wishful thinking. But there are more reasons than usual to believe China’s promises that it is trying to rein in its unruly, pugnacious little ally, North Korea. South Korea’s president, Lee Myung-bak, has said that China has promised not to side with North Korea if it stages further provocations towards the South. That would be a big shift. Last year China failed to condemn either the sinking by North Korea of a South Korean naval vessel in March, or the shelling in November of a South Korean island. Now Chinese scholars and officials do indeed seem to be sending strong signals to North Korea that enough is enough.

In June Liang Guanglie, China’s defence minister, told a regional-security forum in Singapore that China had done much more in communicating with North Korea “than you can imagine”. At another conference, in Kuala Lumpur, Zhu Feng, a professor at Peking University, contradicted a North Korean participant who argued that the security issue on the Korean peninsula was one of reunification and a legacy of the cold war. It was also a result, Mr Zhu said, of the unchanged nature of the North Korean regime and its behaviour. North Korea, he argued, “risks biting the Chinese hand that feeds it.”

China has been exasperated with North Korea before, not least in 2006, after its first test of a nuclear weapon. Mutual suspicion and animosity go back much further. In a recent paper*, You Ji, a former Chinese foreign-ministry official now at the University of New South Wales, reports that Kim Jong Il, North Korea’s dictator, never forgave China for its disapproval of the hereditary succession in which he took over from his father, Kim Il Sung. Sulking, he did not visit China once from 1983 to 2000." Read More

Stranded: The stateless Haitians

"For many Haitians fleeing dictators and poverty at home and looking for work in the cane fields, the Dominican Republic has long been a refuge. However, possibly a million Haitians or people of Haitian ancestry are now being affected by the adoption of a new law concerning citizenship in the Dominican Republic. Many descendants of Haitian workers living in the Dominican Republic could face deportation to Haiti or be forced to live outside the law, with no legal status in the country.

...

Sonia Pierre, a Dominican human rights activist, says the changes in Dominican citizenship laws have made hundreds of thousands of Dominicans of Haitian descent, in effect, stateless. She points to a landmark international court decision in 2005 calling on the Dominican government to end its discrimination against this population. But the government did the opposite - it hardened its policies and began retroactively withdrawing citizenship from Dominicans of Haitian descent.

Claiming that it is only trying to "clean up" its civil registry rolls, the government now systematically refuses to issue identity documents to Dominicans of Haitian descent. Officials often deny these documents because someone has a Haitian-sounding last name or "looks" Haitian.

Sonia Pierre's organisation, the Movement of Dominican-Haitian Women (MUDHA), has documented thousands of cases where the government is systematically denying rights to Dominicans of Haitian ancestry. Those affected come from all walks of life - schoolteachers, lawyers, community organisers, doctors, entertainers, caregivers, students, and military officers. Now these people are in danger of becoming stateless in the country of their birth and residency." Read More

Economic growth slows for China

"China's economic growth has slowed down in the second quarter this year after the government stepped up its battle against inflation.

Growth was 9.5 per cent in the three months to the end of June compared to a year earlier. That figure is down from 9.7 per cent in the previous quarter.

High house prices in China caused by high inflation
But it may not be good news for China, as inflation hit a three-year-high of 6.4 per cent last month, even though controlling prices is the top priority for the Chinese government.

The slowdown in growth comes amid concerns China is heading for a hard fall after manufacturing activity almost stalled in June, which could have a serious impact on countries struggling to recover from the financial crisis.

China's factory output grew by a better-than expected 15 per cent in June, while retail sales increased by 17.7 percent.

But the biggest concern for the Chinese economy is the fear of China's housing market bursting, between 2009 and 2010 there was a 41 per cent rise in housing constructions as prices soared." Read More

RUSKO

Christopher Mercer, aka Rusko was born in Leeds in 1985 to a musical family. From day one Rusko was surrounded by music whether it be his families piano’s, guitars, banjo’s and saxophones.or in his later years the heavy reggae and dub sound systems of Leeds, music has always been an integral part of Rusko’s life.

After graduating from Leeds university with a degree in musical performance, Rusko discovered the world of dubstep through SUB DUB and a debut appearance from the “Digital Mystikz”, having spent the past 10 years making future dub alongside Leeds very own Iration Steppas, Rusko connected with the sound and moved down to London to further advance his musical opportunities.

Veering away from the dark, serious side of the sound Rusko bought a highly driven energy and fun approach to the dubstep massive, quickly coining his own take on the genre that infected . His sound appealed to many people outside of the dubstep world as his productions became more adventurous in formula, sound and energy. His huge hit “Cockney Thug” has been played by everyone from Pete Tong, Switch, Diplo and Santogold. And has been remixed by Buraka Som sistema, Diplo, Drop the Lime and the Scratch Perverts. Now
part of the Mad Decent Camp with collaborations on the horizon with the likes of Switch, Diplo , Santigold, Trouble Andrew, Hot Chip and more.the future sure is looking bright. Currently setting the radio airwaves alight with his own productions and remixes of artists such as The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, Little Boots and plenty more, Rusko is only going in one direction. Onwards, upwards and far beyond any other young producer could dream of.

"Holy moly! Do you hear that voice coming out of that tiny person??? INCREDIBLE!

Some of you might remember Connie Talbot as the little girl who stole Simon Cowell and all of Britain's heart four years ago when she competed on Britain's Got Talent. She was remarkabled back then and apparently, she isn't letting her talents go to waste. She's still singing and she posted one of her latest covers online for us all to enjoy!

Consider us blown away! Such talent!

Thoughts?"

Natasha Yarovenko

my new infatuation...

google her and what not. boom.

EXTRA

since where on the subject, i discovered her last night as i was sifting thru the "independent" section of my instant Netflix. She played in this wonderful movie called "Room in Rome". It was an excellent movie for more than just its provocative nature. In my opinion, although in America the nature of the film isnt we delve into, especially with such respect and understanding, everything about it was well thought out and executed. It was passionate, artistic, exciting, intense, feminine, funny, and sexy.

here are both the foreign and the American trailers. I put both because i feel that the foreign one is very vague on the actual movie BUT perfectly invoke the energy of the film. Whereas, the American trailer give u a full idea of what its about but in a very cheesy and somewhat seedy way. Balance, i suppose.
