Lil Mama breaks down

"Now I feel bad for calling her Lil Bow Wow. During an interview with Power 105.1′s The Breakfast Club, Lil Mama was forced to tears by Charlamagne, DJ Envy and Angela Yee's incessant taunting.

The rapper became emotional after being confronted about her recent lack of interest in music and being more popular for her antics outside of the studio such as storming Jay-Z's MTV VMA performance. Lil Mama revealed that the reason for her disinterest was because of her mother who died of cancer shortly after she released her debut album."

this is why i stopped following @CthaGod

we all play around but thats kinda disrespectful. i always thought Lil Mama could rap. She did too much, yes. BUT she could rap [.]

And Charlamagne is stunting but she has accomplished alot. whether they realize or not. and he hasnt accomplished anything but being a clown.

Jay-Z x Frank Ocean In The Lab

Here’s the visual aid to Hov’s confirmation that not only is Frank Ocean featured twice on Watch The Throne but he’s also a guest on a song from Jay-Z’s next solo album.

Hip Hop is......???

"Going to a rap show these days, the music is secondary. To be seen is the issue; what is heard is not. Money is spent on cool-kid clothes rather than albums, so it all makes sense. Whereas indie-rock fans have long complained about Pitchfork grades and Williamsburg buzz cycles, hip-hop has quietly been taken over by a Hypebeast its own: the concertgoer who so badly wants to be a part of something, anything. Fans at rap shows will be part of a scene, sure, but they'll settle for existing in the background of a blog post.

The life cycle of a rapper these days goes as follows: Mixtape; mixtape; album; goodbye forever. And then it's on to the next one: a little prettier, a little younger, a little more "relevant." Start a Tumblr, promote through Twitter, crank up the hype machine, put out an album that no one will buy. (No wonder release dates are announced like death sentences.)

It all takes about six months, start to finish. Remember Odd Future? That was a moment—cherish it. Kreayshawn went from zero-to-million dollars in a week, and now she's being eulogized. Where's the next Odd Future? Where's the next [enter name here]? We're living in a time where rap fans are even more crumb-hungry than A&R's ever were, looking for the second coming of the sixth-biggest thing. Sooner or later, stages will be filled with people culled from the crowd—they'll all go home with label offers and be dropped the next morning.

(I should say here that Casey Veggies seems like he has a lot of potential. He is 18! Well-spoken, funny, smart. His performance was solid; far superior to Dom Kennedy, who put on a fine-enough show. I could write about them, but honestly, who cares. People weren't there for them, so much as they were there for themselves. Finishing "Watermelon Sundae," Dom asked, "Y'all still with me?" and there was a moment where it seemed in doubt.)

I stood by as groups of people disappeared during Dom's set to go downstairs and hang out by the dressing rooms. Maybe it was too hot upstairs, or maybe it was just that much cooler in VIP." Read More

Burn banned

The event surrounding Grant’s killing — along with the current political, social and economical circumstances — served as an inspiration for the concept of this song and, eventually, the video. The family of Oscar Grant is featured in the clip, along with a fleet of artists that joined Killer Mike in his effort to deliver a strong and powerful message to his audience, including Diddy, Curren$y, The Cool Kids, Mistah Fab, and Filthy Rich who all make cameos.

PL3DGE is out now.

The Night Before

"The morning after is usually a bittersweet time. You’ll find yourself waking up, one eye still closed, looking at pictures from the night before. You’ll probably smile while you shake your head in a half-hearted disbelief. You’ll say something like “oh man” while you slowly exhale and focus in on some inanimate object on the floor next to the bed/couch that you’re lying on. The truth is, the night’s over and you’ve probably got very little to show for it. That’s life.
Some people choose to live without regrets, looking at each movement forward, even the missteps, as some kind of learning experience or disposable chunk of time. For others, heads swell with dwellings on lost chances and missed opportunities. There’s no right or wrong way of looking at things. Technically speaking, the glass is both half full and half empty. How you choose to word it isn’t going to change a fucking thing about the cup or its contents.
They say that hindsight is 20/20, but I’m not sure I’ve ever woken up the morning after and experienced some great moment of clarity. There are still the what-ifs and the uncertainties.
What we can all agree on is The Night Before. It was a good night."

this is dope and refreshing.

“Moonlight Sonata” (Sound Remedy Remix)

I normally can't say what my exact favorite "this or that" is, but i've always said that Moonlight Sonata was my MOST favorite song. Can't really tell you why. I just kinda always felt like......my soul #shruglife

but anyways. somebody remixed it. i dont like it but its interesting.

Sorry 4 The Wait (review)

so i'm listening to this to see if its even worth downloading. and 2 songs in, I dont think so. Kinda reminds me of that Young Money album or Dedication 3...basically a bunch of throw away songs. I would imagine when you make a mixtape as a precursor for your real album it should make ppl further anticipate your work. This is the antithesis of that. A bunch of beats we've heard before. A bunch of flows we've heard before. And pretty much the same punchlines that we've heard before. I do appreciate the Kreayshawn song, but thats mainly cuz i like the actual song (downloading her mixtape as we speak). I also dig his Marvin's Room. Which, coincidentally, is the one and only version of it that I've heard. (why does the beat kinda sound like 3 other Drake songs, btw?)

Its not even like the mixtape is bad. It's just underwhelming. Like...im convinced that he just doesnt care anymore. And I guess thats cool for him, but for fans (esp. paying ones) I feel like we deserve a little more effort. and stop fucking repeating shit! "taz push the album back" blah blah blah. if thats all you wanted to say then you shoulda just did a press release. its really not that deep. It's just boring at this point. I rather hear him playing 3 guitar cords, humming and shit. At least he was trying then.

but whatever.

Groove St. Party (review)

"I’m sure I’ve written about this before but I’ll say it again anyway. The big difference between No Ceilings Wayne and Sqad/Drought/Dedication Wayne and No Ceilings Wayne lied in his selection and his construction. NC was just straight up rappy raps over the hits of the day, he ran down the Billboard rap/R&B charts and then rapped about whatever over those tracks and echoing their hooks syllable for syllable, subbing in some cutesy joke about being high or being a blood. But in the S/D/D era he was choosing more obscure tracks (Little Brother! Youngbloodz!) with some degree of taste and using their instrumentals as canvases for entirely different songs with new choruses and concepts. The best example of this in the Wayne catalog, and maybe in all of rap ever, was “Sky Is The Limit” where he jacked a flop ass Mike Jones record and turned it into a legitimate 15-million Youtube views hit.

In the past Lil B has shown a similar knack for putting a personal touch on instrumentals. This approach defined the Based Freestyle era and the even more recent Bitch Mob (which featured such an obscure and tastefully selection of other people’s beats that most listeners probably didn’t even realize that they were other people’s beats). But eventually he realized what Wayne should - there are so many incredible producers as there are right now literally giving away beats for free there’s no excuse for just grabbing hit instrumentals and rapping over them.

And yet that’s exactly what Wayne and B do with their long awaited (three weeks Twitter time) collab. Two of my favorite rappers of doing karaoke over a Waka Flocka hit. It’s not bad, it’s just rapping from rappers who are capable of so much more than just rapping. Wayne continues his boring ass emotionless phase, delivering one dimensional punchlines (I’m higher than a bitch feel like I climbed a fucking mountain; swagger on steriods… Canseco, Jose) and then audibly cheesing like he just said something incredibly clever. I can’t be the only person who is starting to hate this guy." Read More and listen
