Just bought Janelle Monàe's Anchandroid and I'm excited. I know I'm late but this is the first time I could find it in NC.

So the first thing I admired was the cover art. I saw the front cover online but th cover art is way more impressive in person. The head piece is amazing. I'm not sure if it's digital or real but it's gorgeous. The detail is beautiful. I'm curious as to what the symbol on the front of the head piece and cd mean?

Another thing that I thought was really cool was that inside the cover she gives the back story to the theme and inspriration. The part that I was truly excited about was seeing my Wondafam's name all over the place, especially in the Executive Producer spots :) (Disclaimer: this blog and the opinion of DJ SPK is in NO WAY associated w the Wondaland Arts Society) "Concieved, Conceptualized, and Created by the Mad Minds of The Wondaland Arts Society" whaaatttt???? WELL DESERVED, and much over due. I can honestly say everyone involved w this project that I kno are true artist, intellecuals and visionaries.

Now for the music, as soon as I turned it on I was naturally entranced by the pleasantries to my ears. Not only that but zayd's head was bobbing and Marlee was attempting to sing "Faster". "Locked Inside" reminds of exactly what inspired them, "the collage in Stevie Wonders glasses". It's makes me wanna dance w marlee in the kitchen, and it reminds me of afternoons in Wondaland. My mom likes "Tightrope" for obvious reasons (she's dancing to it right now in th car lol). "Babopbye Ya" is a personal fav.

In listening to album, I feel like it was well thought out, visual, and powerful. Of course, I purchased it to support the fam, but after listening I can honestly say that it was worth evey penny (which I knew it would be ne way :) )

Btw, "Neon Gumbo" made me smile ;)

Janelle Monáe's 'ArchAndroid' Album Cover is Here!

"The ArchAndroid Crown: Designed by Zoman Ignatius, the half-elf, half-human mystic, reportedly 500 years ago. According to legend, the crown has several magic properties, as well as innovative technologies that can be employed only by The ArchAndroid. Zoman was a consummate inventor, artist and sculptor, a cross between Tesla and Da Vinci, and as such, he designed the crown to be a work of beauty that would embody the very spirit of Metropolis. According to legend, the crown features prominent Metropolis buildings and towers that will light up radiantly when the one and only true ArchAndroid wears the crown." Read More

Janelle Monae: Fugitive android, time-traveling songstress

"LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Janelle Monae is a girl from another planet, and she's invading your world.

Sightings of the singer-songwriter will include this week's "American Idol" finale, the Hollywood Bowl and concert stages across America this summer and TV's Sci Fi Channel this fall.

Monae insists that her real identity is Cindi Mayweather, an android traveling through space and time to escape destruction ordered because she fell in love with a human, a fatal infraction of robots' rules.

Along the way, she's making music that moves into the future while drawing from decades past."

Janelle Monae - Rolling Stone Hot List

"With an Elvis pompadour and saddle shoes, Janelle Monáe looks like she stepped out of 1950. But after a spin of the Atlanta soul singer's Metropolis: The Chase Suite — a bizarrely catchy collage of hip-hop, jazz and funk offering a dystopian vision of the year 2719 — it's clear Monáe's staking a claim on R&B's future. "The old way hasn't worked — look at declining record sales," says Monáe, 24, whose Big Boi-produced disc cribs from Octavia E. Butler sci-fi novels and Fritz Lang's Metropolis, among others. "This is the perfect time to take a risk."
