"Black Swan follows the story of Nina (Natalie Portman), a ballerina in a New York City ballet company whose life, like all those in her profession, is completely consumed with dance. She lives with her retired ballerina mother Erica (Barbara Hershey) who zealously supports her daughter’s professional ambition. When artistic director Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Winona Ryder) for the opening production of their new season, Swan Lake, Nina is his first choice. But Nina has competition: a new dancer, Lily (Mila Kunis), who impresses Leroy as well.
Swan Lake requires a dancer who can play both the White Swan with innocence and grace, and the Black Swan, who represents guile and sensuality. Nina fits the White Swan role perfectly but Lily is the personification of the Black Swan. As the two young dancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get more in touch with her dark side with a recklessness that threatens to destroy her."
let me 1st say that i was thrilled once i heard Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis...i didnt even kno they had a sex scene lol BUT i didnt hurt once i found out. Once I saw the trailer (below) i knew i had to see it. I was geeked ever since.
honestly, it was everything that i hoped it would be. it was intense, weird, sexual, complex and beautiful. if u dont kno by now, ive always wanted to be a ballerina, so from the 1st scene i was into it. im sure the friend that i went with saw a gleam in my eyes that only happens on rare occasions. And the dancing was nothing short of awesome. I was very impressed with Mila for the simple fact that she didnt have any ballet training prior to the movie. Im not sure about Natalie, but she was perfection, regardless.
i enjoyed the dynamics of the characters. the mother-daughter relationship was particularly intriguing. i dont want to ruin it for anyone who hasnt seen it but at the end of the day they both were a little crazy WHILE both being very innocent and loving. Natalie Portman's character was a very interesting. I thought her character was very pure, even in her insanity. She lived her craft to the point where it consumed her. We should all be so lucky...as morbid as that sounds. And at the end of the day, no matter how u look at it, she was "perfect".
i dont want to go into it any further cuz its a fairly new movie, and i hate spoilers. The only thing that i didnt like about it was the way the camera bounced with the action. I understand and appreciate the effect but it made my head hurt. Otherwise, Black Swan is worth every penny. It will keep u guessing, smiling, cringing, and occasionally closing ur eyes.
